VOLUNTEERING WITH SPARSHA 

Sparsha is looking for dedicated, enthusiastic volunteers to
get involved with the various programmes of Sparsha, depending on the interest, expertise, and availability of the candidate.

Why to VOLUNTEER with SPARSHA?

Sparsha is relentlessly working for the betterment of poor communities who live in some of the hardest conditions in Mumbai. The main goal of Sparsha is to support children and young adults in obtaining quality education and to give support to the parents for helping their children to do so. In helping Sparsha, you are allowing these children and young adults yo have an access to basic necessities that many of us take for granted – EDUCATION.

 

Sparsha will make sure to give credit where it is due by certifying your hard work and you will obtain a valuable experience within your time as a volunteer for your professional work in the future.

How can you help?

There is a choice of roles available for volunteers within Sparsha Programmes. Volunteers have the great opportunity to get involved with various programmes and projects depending on their interest, expertise, and availability.

Sparsha is looking for dedicated, enthusiastic volunteers to commit for one of the volunteering roles. Depending on your circumstances and availability, and according to Sparsha´s needs, Sparsha is also offering tailor-made volunteer projects.

What does Sparsha do?

Role Summary:

The volunteer will be teaching mainly the subjects Hindi, English, Maths and Science alongside with a Sparsha Teacher in one of Sparsha´s Learning Centres and assist the teacher wherever necessary.

Location:

Sparsha Learning Centres

Time of commitment:

Minimum 6 months (1 term), 2-4 hours per week. We try to place volunteers who are committing for a longer period into the Learning Centres in order for the children not having to change teacher volunteers frequently to ensure a better development of the students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the teacher of the class
  • Teach the subjects Hindi, English, Maths and Science
  • Research and prepare yourself for the classes
  • Prepare yourself with skills and knowledge to teach
  • Prepare the classroom and material for class activities
  • Give 1:1 support to students if needed
  • Keep a record of the student’s general development
  • Submit a development record in detail of one student
  • Keep a record of content taught in the classes 

Skills required:

Hindi, English, Maths, Science, teaching experience is a help

Role Summary:

The volunteer will be teaching young adults who are signed up for distance learning to prepare them for their exams.

Location:

Sparsha Office Time of commitment: Minimum 2 months, 2-3 days a week, 2 hours per day (6 – 8pm) We try to place volunteers who are committing for a longer period in order for the students not having to change teacher volunteers frequently to ensure a better development of the students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research and prepare yourself for the classes
  • Prepare yourself with skills and knowledge to teach
  • Prepare the classroom and material for class activities
  • Teach the way students learn best
  • Give 1:1 support to students if needed
  • Keep a record of the student’s general development
  • Keep a record of content taught in the classes

Skills required:

Hindi, English, Maths and Science, teaching experience is a help

Role Summary:

The volunteer will be working on Marketing, Social Media and Fundraising activities for Sparsha.

Location:

Sparsha Office

Time of commitment:

Minimum 2 months, 4 hours per week

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support with Marketing activities
  • Help with the content of the Sparsha website
  • Create and write Sparsha reports and newsletters
  • Work on the Sparsha photo library o Update Sparsha´s facebook page
  • Support Sparsha in fundraising initiatives and events

Skills required:

Hindi, Marathi, English, Computer Skills, Knowledge of Marketing and Social Media is a plus.

Role Summary:

The volunteer will be assisting in the preparation and conduction of children events and workshops focusing on non-curriculum activities, such as sports, games and arts. The other possibility is that the volunteer organizes and conducts an adult educational workshop on legal information, health, as well as any relevant topic to better their lifestyles and the one of their children.

Time of commitment:

Short term commitment possible, depending on the event/workshop

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support with ideas for the event/workshop
  • Assist in the preparation of the event/workshop
  • Organize fundraising if required for the event/workshop
  • Advertise and promote the event /workshop
  • Active participation at the event/conduct workshop

Skills required:

Hindi, Marathi, English, Computer Skills and knowledge in Event Management would be great.

Role Summary:

The volunteer will be working along with a Sparsha employee to visit the communities to support parents in obtaining legal formalities.

Location:

Communities

Time of commitment:

Minimum 2 months, 4 hours per week

Key Responsibilities:

  • Visit learning centres to meet with the parents
  • Obtain the data from the parents of the status of the documents they require
  • Visit communities to consult the members to obtain various legal documents
  • Administrative work, draft legal letters
  • Prepare and conduct parent educational workshops on legal documents and general awareness
  • Obtain required information on procedures from the BMC notary
  • Assist in workshops and fundraising activities

Skills required:

Communication Skills, Hindi, Marathi, English

Role Summary:

The volunteer will be assisting in the preparation and conduction of a children´s holiday camps focusing on non-curriculum activities, such as sports, games, art and craft.

Location:

Various locations

Time of commitment:

1 month during holiday time

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation
  • Advertise and promote the camp to the parents and children
  • Play games with the children
  • Perform arts & craft workshops at the camp
  • Play different sports and make competitions with the children
  • Give dancing classes

Skills required:

Hindi, Marathi, English, Computer Skills, Knowledge in Event Management is a plus.
